Clean a bathroom sink with mini jet

Welcome back to Happi Plumbing Channel. Most of us were bothered by sink drain issues. Today let’s see how to clean bathroom sink drain with mini jet.

Customer concerns:

The sink in the second-floor bathroom is not draining. Someone was hired to unclog it, but they were unsuccessful. It may require using a mini jet (mini high-pressure water jet).

Step 1: Diagnose the blockage location.

A sink drain can be clogged at various points: the stopper, P-trap, trap arm, sanitary tee, or branch drain. By turning on the faucet and observing how long it takes for the water to back up, we can roughly estimate where the blockage is. In this case, it took about 30 seconds for the water to back up, indicating the clog is likely deeper inside the wall.

Step 2: Observe the structure and dimensions of the sink drain to plan the unclogging approach.
We decided to first try using a drain snake machine.

Step 3: Create an access point for the snake machine.
We cut a slot in the trap arm, allowing us to both snake and flush the pipe at the same time, while also observing the water flow. This is one of our technician’s signature techniques.

Step 4: Use a small drain snake machine.
We snaked 40 feet, but the clog still wasn’t cleared. When we pulled the cable back, there was no hair or other foreign objects—just backflow water with a lot of sludge. This led us to further conclude that the blockage was due to sediment buildup, which can only be cleared using a mini jet.

Step 5: Use the mini jet.
A large amount of dirty water, debris, and even many cockroaches were flushed out.

Step 6: Thoroughly clean the pipes.
Many rust fragments from cast iron pipes were flushed out. This house is likely quite old. When rust from cast iron pipes flakes off, it doesn’t get carried away by water and accumulates in the pipes. Drain snakes can’t remove this; only high-pressure water jets can flush it out.

Step 7: Reassemble the drainage pipe and test it.
The water now flows very smoothly. We also recommended that the customer consider replacing the entire aging drainage system.
